Il soggetto di Khandaani Shafakhana è pari, per capacità di sbalordirmi, a quello di Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Pur non vantando un cast di stelle - con l'esclusione di Sonakshi Sinha -, KS rimane nell'ambito del cinema di intrattenimento, ma tratta un tema delicato e insolito: le disfunzioni sessuali maschili. Come se non bastasse, la protagonista assoluta della storia è una ragazza nubile di Amritsar, Baby, che si ritrova, suo malgrado, a dover curare questi disturbi, per poi scoprire - scandalo degli scandali - che la professione l'appassiona. KS è risultato un flop gigantesco al botteghino: gli spettatori indiani, anche nelle megalopoli, hanno girato talmente al largo dalla pellicola da cambiare residenza.
Diretto da una regista, Shilpi Dasgupta, KS non è mai volgare, però non è nemmeno troppo sottile. La sceneggiatura è molto debole e spegne un soggetto brillante e dalle grandi potenzialità. La commedia ha un ritmo stanco, la narrazione non coinvolge. I dialoghi sono altalenanti. I personaggi insignificanti. Le interpretazioni reggono (applauso al sempre ottimo Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Una menzione speciale per il coraggio dimostrato da Sonakshi Sinha e da Badshah nell'accettare i rispettivi ruoli. Buone le scenografie.
TRAMA
Baby è una (fantasiosa) rappresentante di medicinali e il sostegno economico della sua famiglia. Muore lo zio. Baby è l'unica erede testamentaria, anche se il lascito si rivela non proprio allettante, e le condizioni poste dal defunto un tantino imbarazzanti.

'The problem arises when a film like this tries to play sexual troubles for laughs (...) and while Khandaani Shafakhana tries to eventually reach out with empathy, the initial attempts at humour rise mostly from the heroine’s disgust. The other problem comes from the film’s unnecessary attempts at melodrama, but these are both redundant and half-baked. (...) That hurts this film’s simple, good-natured spirit. A big positive comes from the rapper Badshah. (...) It’s a bold role for the musician to take, one that is aware of the connotations, as other characters in the film call him “a homo pop star” because his equipment doesn’t work. Again, the joke is on them and not him - but who is the audience laughing at? Still, big ups to the rapper to take on this persona. (...) Despite visible attempts at sincerity, the actress (Sonakshi Sinha) can’t make the character work (...). Baby Bedi is a poorly written character of convenience, witless in one scene and quick in another, behaving as the script needs her to, and not how the character would. She tries very hard, but her presence only underlines how this is basically an Ayushmann Khurrana film without Ayushmann Khurrana. There is, refreshingly, no hero to speak of. (...) The film has some smashing lines'.
