A THURSDAY

Prodotto modesto e spreco colossale di un cast di tutto rispetto. Il film è guardabile (una volta), a (brevissimi) tratti anche emozionante, ma nel complesso risulta debole per non dire banale. La sceneggiatura non crede abbastanza nel soggetto, qualche ingenuità di troppo nella trama, qualche esagerazione non necessaria. La regia è intermittente, il trattamento semplicistico, la confezione televisiva, la conclusione grossolana.

TRAMA

Naina è una maestra di scuola materna, adorata dai suoi piccoli allievi. Al ritorno anticipato da un congedo di tre settimane, Naina prende in ostaggio sedici bambini, si barrica nell'edificio, contatta la polizia e condivide il gesto in rete. Partono le richieste e il conto alla rovescia.

'Of its many problems, the most grating one is that the makers still think this is a novel narrative. (...) Then there is this film’s simplistic button-pushing. Once Naina reveals her truth, the film leaves no stone unturned to suggest that her “method” is the best solution. Everyone suddenly looks at her differently, including the terrorized parents who feared the worst for their children. That’s not how human psychology works. The gaze is so naive that the entire country is transformed (...) by the time she’s done. (...) A Thursday is yet another lazy and rabble-rousing iteration of a complicated issue'.
